Application Range
The tap holders of type KSN are preferably designed for application in CNC machining centers, CNC turning machines and other machine tools.
Owing to their design the tap holders type KSN/Softsynchro are mainly used on CNC machines with synchronous spindle.
Description
Owing to the various requirements a tap holder is to fulfill, the series KSN is divided up in the 5 following types:
Type KSN For conventional thread cutting, additionally marked by a yellow ring on the shell.
Type KSN/IKZZ/MMS For thread cutting operations with minimum quantity lubrication (MMS) up to 10 bar (140 psi), marked with a green ring on the handling sleeve. The most important advantages of MMS are:
- environment-friendly lubrication
- high cutting values can be realized (comparable to wet working)
- reduction of machining costs, due to being able to do without filters and without waste disposal
Type KSN/HD For thread cutting operations with internal coolant supply up to 700 psi, additionally marked with a red ring on the shell.
Type KSN/Synchro For thread cutting on machines with synchronous control system, with tap adaption by steel collets.
Type KSN/Softsynchro By installing a minimal length compensation on compression and on tension, arising minimal pitch differences between synchronous spindle and tap - which would lead to high thread flank friction forces - are compensated.
An eventual increase of the axial force during the thread cutting cycle is reduced to a minimum.
The resulting advantages are the following:
- No miscutting of the threads
- Optimized tool life of the tap
- Suited for internal coolant supply
Specifications
Owing to the modern production methods in the range of thread cutting, the types KSN and KSN/HD are equipped with the following specifications:
- Small, compact overhang
- Length compensation on compression
- Increased length compensation on tension
- Tension release
- Pressure point mechanism
- Change of the quick-change adapter: possible by a length compensation on tension and on compression (KSN). For KSN/HD by lifting the shell in compression direction.
- High-quality surface protection against corrosion (KSN/HD)
Quick-Change Adapters (for types KSN and KSN/HD).
For adapting taps or dies, the following quick-change adapters are available:
Type EM... = Normal version, without overload clutch
Type EM...-U = With overload clutch
Type EM...-Z = With steel collet adaption
Type EM...-R = Reduction adaption for all EM types
Collet Adaption
For adapting taps/drills, the following collets are available on the KSN/Synchro-version, the KSN/Softsynchro-version and the quick-change adapter EM-Z:
Type ER = Standard collets acc. to DIN 6499
Type ER/GB = Collets with square drive
Type ET-1-PCM = Collets with length compensation in tension direction
